Look What Smoking Can Do!

Tobacco Industry’s Poster Child

It is hard to find anyone these days who hasn’t seen the famous Poster Child – on billboards, in classrooms, at the doctor’s office …

For the past seven years, this made-in-BC education resource has been showing just what kind of damage smoking can do.

Poster Child Poster

Here’s a few appearances she’s made over the years:

  • The cover model of the prestigious British Medical Journal Tobacco Control in summer 1999, with a lengthy article about BC’s successful Tobacco Strategy,
  • Featured as a podium backdrop by the World Health Organization,
  • Her teeth are featured as one of the health warning pictures on Canadian cigarette packages, and
  • She’s so popular that she’s been adapted for use by 11 other Canadian provinces, 41 US states as well as Argentina, Australia, Croatia, Denmark, France, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Singapore, South Africa, UK.

Now that’s staying power!
