bc.tobaccofacts

bc.tobaccofacts is a series of tobacco prevention resources for teachers. This school-based tobacco prevention program is designed to help teachers support our young people to stay tobacco free. It is the work of numerous teachers, administrators, health professionals, consultants and students throughout British Columbia.

Based on best classroom practices and the latest research on tobacco prevention and cessation, it is creative, enjoyable, challenging, and fun for students. bc.tobaccofacts is recommended and approved by the Ministry of Education for use in the provinces’ schools.

Young people and teachers agree – this resource provides lots of learning and lots of fun.

Scope and sequence

From grades four through 12, bc.tobaccofacts targets tobacco and is developed as a spiral curriculum, using five themes based on tobacco prevention research:

  • Effects of tobacco use
  • Social norms
  • Reasons for using tobacco
  • Social influences
  • Resistance skills

Each level of the resource explores these themes in greater breadth and depth as the program progresses through the grades.
