Talk About It Tips

The most important thing you can do to keep your child from starting to smoke is to Talk About It. As a parent, you carry a lot of weight with your child… more than you might think. And talking with them about tobacco use is an important way of helping them make the right decision when they’re offered that first cigarette.

… and if you smoke

Did you know? Children are twice as likely to smoke if their parents smoke. Talking to your child is even more important for parents who smoke than for parents who don’t smoke. Chances are, you’ve tried to quit at least once before. Tell you child about it… how hard it was to quit and why you couldn’t.

For more tips on talking to your children about tobacco use, read Talk About It Tips. Download a pdf file of the brochure, or order a copy from Centre for Addiction Research BC (CARBC),
